What are you still doing here?  

After playing with Tumblr for a few days (http://comicbookalex.tumblr.com/) I'm pretty much sold on moving all my blogging activity over there so if you're interested in my blathering be sure to come see me there (and let me know if you have an account since I need something to distract me from working!).

The question now is what do I do with this LJ? I have literally years of entries so it seems a shame to just delte the account. Of course, most of what I wrote here was just ephemeral crap with little rereading value, but there are some things I'd like to keep around (like my "commentary" entries--which I should really revive). Is it really worth me plowing through al those entries for the few somewhat-interesting material?

I know there's a thing out there that lets you save your LJs as a pdf book...I'm at work so sadly I don't have the link on hand, but will float it your way later on. I think there's a small fee after the first few batches (more like a donation thing, but it's cheap), but they may have done away with that, I don't remember.

There's a program I used for a while called LJ Archive that seems pretty popular. Considering that I personally just found your LJ a couple months ago though after readng BOP, it may be nice to leave it up, but disable comments so future fans can read (and yes, even the posts you think are worthless actually get read.) Leaving a proper "End" post to close the journal is less sad than simply abandoning it or deleting all those thoughts you thought were worth sharing over the years.

I have been playing around with tumblr as well but as of yet I do not see what the fuss is about. And there are things about it I actively dislike (why are we presented with options to post "text" OR "image" OR "audio" etc. when, really, we can post any of those elements under the "text" option anyway? Bizarre.) Why do you like it?

It's not perfect by any means. I honestly think that the biggest appeal is that it seems to be on its way up compared to poor old LJ which is definitely on its last legs (over the past few weeks I've gotten maybe eight replies to things I've posted and, except for yours, they were all spam).
Believe me, if it were still a thriving community I would gladly stick with LiveJournal.
